my old backpack and comments on backpacks

Posted

I tossed it some years ago. Brown codura nylon, a little over 5000 cubic inches, the pack was held on the frame by cotter pins. Sleeping bag went inside. Large pack area, no internal pockets. Map pocket on the flap, two side pockets on each side of the pack. The bottom pockets were the larger ones.

I think it was made by Kelty or North Face. Nice waist belt to.

Finding a pack that is close to that one, seems impossible so far.

Very few backpacks for tall people. If there are lots of them, I haven’t found them yet. Some, like the Alps Mountaineering Zion external frame pack looks like it might work for me. There are some terms in the list of specifications I haven’t seen before.

REI suggested 2 that might fit me… both are over $300 and 80 (4881.9 cubic inches) or 85 liters (5187 cubic inches). Way too much for me to spend.

Campmor has one for $110, at 3900 cubic inches (63.9 liters). I am much more inclined to spend this amount of money.

I realize that the Alps Mountaineering one is not only cheaper, but smaller as well.

I may not hike long distances, for example, over 100 miles. So I doubt I’ll ever be a thru-hiker.
